NZTA workers walk off the job in Palmerston North
Workers at the New Zealand Transport Agency in Palmerston North have walked off the job this afternoon in protest at the agency’s refusal to consider any across-the-board pay rise.
“NZTA is simply refusing to negotiate an across-the-board pay increase with its workers,” says Laurel Reid, EPMU organiser.
“EPMU members are delivering a petition today calling on the agency to act in good faith and come back to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair and reasonable percentage increase.
“It’s especially gutting when recent media reports have revealed that NZTA chief executive Geoff Dangerfield is on over $600,000 per year,” says Laurel.
“On the one hand there’s a public report saying public sector chief executives should be paid even more than they are now, and on the other they’re telling the frontline workers there’s no money to spare.”
The EPMU represents over 250 workers at the NZTA’s office in Palmerston North.
