2013 Fitness Industry Awards Winners Announced

It is the night of the year for the New Zealand Fitness Industry -- The NZ Fitness Awards where the best of the best come together to celebrate and recognise the achievements of those making a difference to New Zealanders by making them fitter and healthier.

After seeing the largest, and most competitive field of entrants to date, the winners of the 2013 Fitness Industry Awards were announced to a sold out ceremony on Saturday 23rd November at the Sir Paul Reeves Building in Auckland.

The 2013 winners represent the truly excellent contributions to health and fitness in New Zealand.

With judges comments as: “…empowering his team to change lives.”; “…performance was exemplary.”; “…genuine commitment to members” and “…an inspirational success story”, it is no wonder that judges have praised entrants this year as lifting the bar on all previous years.

Head Judge Dr Nigel Harris says “In 2013 we have had a record number of entries, resulting in a line up of finalists in all categories that have all excelled in improving the lives of kiwis in a variety of ways, through exercise.

It’s great to be able to celebrate and recognise their success through the awards."

The Personal Trainer of the Year award, Sponsored by Fitness Life Magazine, is one that is highly sought after and respected, with the calibre of the entrants being of the highest quality.

This year the bar was raised with the five finalists from across country making it tough for the judges to reach a final winner.

In fact this year there were two winners, with Micah Lindsay--Brown from Cityfitness Blenheim and Greig Rightford from Les Mills Wellington sharing this top honour.

In her acceptance speech Micah summed up her feelings about the awards stating that it was “an awesome occasion that recognises an industry and the people who change countless peoples lives ultimately making Aotearoa a fitter, healthier, stronger and more positive country to live."

The highest honour is the ‘Supreme Club of the Year’ category.

Judges commented on the winner, The Gym Tauranga: “The owner’s commitment to business innovation and reinvestment is evident in the club environment, systems in place and exceptional customer satisfaction levels, retention and membership growth."

The awards mean a great deal to the recipients and the industry, the winner of the Outstanding Club Support category sponsored by Belle by Invivo Wines was Toni Clough from CLM’s Onehunga War Memorial Pool Fitness Centre “This was the 6th time that I have been to the NZ Fitness Awards and each year the categories seem to get hard and harder to win which only goes to show how the NZ Fitness Industry is continually evolving and producing world leading fitness professionals."

The awards are co--timed with FITEX, the conference for the fitness and exercise industry in New Zealand.

This event features the latest in science and business for every facet and role within the fitness industry – from facility owners, though to exercise professionals.

This makes the last weekend in November THE weekend for the fitness and exercise industry.

While the awards recognize the talent in the industry, FITEX itself is sees attendees working with national and international presenters, learning about all the latest exercise science and trends which will be appearing in classes and facilities in the next year.

The 2013 Awards had 20 categories, looking at both individuals and facilities that operate in the fitness/exercise industry.

The entrants numbers were over 300 this year, a record number since the awards inception in 2004.

A full list of winners can be found attached and at www.fitnessindustryawards.co.nz.
