Christchurch scoops supreme PR Award

Christchurch scoops supreme PR Award

The country's premier communications award has been won by a Christchurch team from Durning PR and the University of Canterbury.

John MacDonald from Durning PR, and Stacey Doornenbal and Jayne Austin from the University of Canterbury, have won the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand's sustained public relations category award and the overall supreme award for their work on the university's communications and stakeholder relations programme to secure a post-earthquake multi-million dollar capital support commitment from the Government.

The Supreme Award judging panellists praised the team for their "thought leadership programmes, clever media engagement and an unprecedented level of engagement with the Canterbury community.

"Some of the programme elements would be considered world-class by any large institution seeking to reposition itself," the judges said.

The annual awards, which are in their 41st year, are keenly contested by public relations agencies and in-house communications staff throughout New Zealand.
