Thrifty challenges rental car customer pain points

Thrifty Car Rental is offering heavily reduced rental vehicle rates (up to 50% off) exclusively for AA Members. The all-inclusive product features late model vehicles and is available year round across all Thrifty New Zealand locations.

Three years ago Thrifty signed an exclusive partnership with The Automobile Association New Zealand (AA), seeing the partnership marketed as “AA Thrifty” across the country. Since then, Thrifty has been welcoming AA Members and providing friendly, helpful service along with great value and a wide range of exclusive extras.

This new offer is an addition to the “AA Thrifty” partnership. It addresses common customer frustrations around hidden costs, credit card fees, high insurance excesses, off-airport locations and bad service. The bundled package covers the daily rental, airport fees, $0 excess damage liability, under-age driver waiver, GST, credit card fees and a 5 cents per litre AA Smartfuel discount.

“We listened to customers’ frustrations; we all hate surprises so now what you see is what you pay for – there are no hidden costs,” says Thrifty's General Manager Emma Gardiner.

“This is a first for on-airport car rental pricing. By bundling everything together it makes things really easy, as well as saving AA Members time and money when renting a vehicle. The only additional cost is fuel,” said Ms Gardiner.

AA General Manager Club Operations Peter Moxon says Thrifty’s rates are a generous bonus for AA Members. Nearly one million New Zealanders are AA Members so this benefit is available to a huge number of Kiwis keen to explore the country.

“Thrifty’s offer is a natural extension of the travel-related Member benefits AA already offers and helps to reduce travel costs, especially combined with the accommodation booking discounts offered by AA Traveller and fuel discounts with AA Smartfuel.”

“More than 80% of all domestic travel is by car and for those who do fly, particularly between the North and South Islands, significant Thrifty rental car discounts for AA Members helps to ensure the journey is lighter on the pocket, ” says Mr Moxon.

The new package is available year-round and is ideal for short business trips or leisure travellers looking for a weekend escape or extended holiday.
