Hawkes Bay Vineyard scoops seven medals

Hawkes Bay Vineyard scoops seven medals at the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition

Hawkes Bay boutique vineyard Mangapapa Estates, Chateau Waimarama has taken out seven medals at the prestigious Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition.

The competition is the largest wine show in Asia and Mangapapa Estates, Chateau Waimarama scooped seven medals which included four Silver and three Bronze.

The Silver medals were for;

Chateau Waimarama 2009

Chateau Waimarama Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Chateau Waimarama Syrah 2009

Chateau Waimarama Syrah 2010

The Bronze were:

Chateau Waimarama Merlot 2009

Chateau Waimarama Reserve Selection 2009

Chateau Waimarama Merlot 2010

Chateau Waimarama Managing Director Chase Arquette says the team is absolutely delighted to have won these medals and it also confirms what we all knew that 2009 was an extremely wonderful vintage.

“It also shows that the 2010 vintage while difficult, with the hands on approach at Mangapapa Estate in the vineyard we produce a constant product of superior quality each year.

All our wines are single estate grown so we don't blend with grapes from other
Vineyard areas and we produce only 2000 cases a year, which predominantly gets exported to Japan.”

“The 2009 wines have now won medals in New Zealand, Hong Kong, San Francisco and London, so not bad for a winery that is single estate grown. It shows that the investment and continuing attention to detail in the vineyard is the key to our success.” Mr Arquette said.
