Game Changing Liquor Brand Enters the NZ Market
The New Zealand online liquor market is set to be challenged as newcomers Click Liquor, an online liquor retailer, launch the first range of cleanskin spirits and liquers to the market.
“We see a real opportunity for local producers to benefit from this,” says Managing Director, Steve Fromont. “We are coming up against the larger international brands but with all the packaging and the marketing, the costs just skyrocket and we’re looking to be a game changer.”
The Naked Spirits brand will sell cleanskin bourbon, gin, vodka, whisky and rum starting from just $30 a bottle. The cleanskin liquer range features over 19 products from $9.95 and is still growing.
When Stephen Fromont, the then General Manager of the The Mill Liquorsave Group introduced cleanskin wines to the New Zealand market it was seen by some as a cheap alternative to the major labelled brands.
It proved to be a game changer in that quality wines could be brought to market without the costs of branding, marketing and corporate overheads associated with the un-challenged market leaders. It also resulted in the introduction of many secondary brands that were launched to counter the cleanskins and to match the low price brackets that came with them.
As Fromont pointed out at the time: “It’s not about cheap wines without proper labels, it’s about affordable quality wines with minimal labeling and additional costs absorbed by the consumer.”
Fromont has recently launched his online liquor website - www.clickliquor.co.nz and is now focusing on affordable quality spirits with minimal labeling under his “Naked Spirit” brand.
Fromont points out that major international spirit brands do not have a monopoly on quality in New Zealand and that local manufacturers have both the skills and experience to produce exceptional products.
Click Liquor is offering a larger range of spirits and liqueurs for home delivery via it’s online website as well as craft beers, ciders and wines.
Long term Fromont sees his site working even more closely with local manufacturers and producers to bring variety to the home delivery market. And he points out that spirit glasses don’t have fancy labels so really it’s all about the taste once the sip meets the lip.
“Our products are excellent quality – but with the minimal packaging and marketing overheads, we can offer these to the New Zealand market at a much more reasonable price.”
