Holiday park confidence reaches record high

Holiday park confidence reaches record high

Holiday park owners’ confidence has reached a record high as the sector emerges from a winter of growth and looks forward to a busy peak season.

“Member confidence right now is at its strongest ever and looking positive going into summer,” Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand (HAPNZ) Chief Executive Fergus Brown says.

“With strong peak season bookings in most regions, we expect confidence levels to remain high well into the new year.”

The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor for October/November 2014 shows HAPNZ member confidence is at its highest ever at +83, indicating that 83% of respondents are currently more optimistic than pessimistic. This is up three points from the previous month and 14 points on the same period last year.

The Holiday Parks Business Confidence Monitor, developed and managed by Angus & Associates*, surveys HAPNZ’s 300 members.

Confidence for the next 12 months is at +85.

Demand for this month compared to the same month last year increased 11 points from September/October 2014. 52% of members surveyed thought demand had increased, 21% believed it had decreased and 24% saw no change.

Demand for the coming month compared to the same month last year fell three points from September/October. 43% of respondents expected demand to increase, 6% expected it to decrease and 44% expected no change.

“We’ve got fingers crossed for a run of great summer weather through the peak Christmas-New Year period. That would just put the icing on the cake,” Mr Brown says.

“If people have not already booked their summer holiday spot, I would urge them to do so as soon as possible. Many holiday parks are already fully booked, while others are filling fast.”
