CCCA Supports Restriction of Refrigerant Sales

CLIMATE CONTROL COMPANIES ASSOCIATION (CCCA) SUPPORTS RESTRICTION OF REFRIGERANT SALES ENCOURAGING MEMBERS TO DO THE SAME, EFFECTIVE 1 JANUARY 2015

CCCA is a strong promoter of good practice in the HVAC&R Industry.

It has been actively supporting the initiative to restrict all sales of refrigerant to individuals who are unable to provide evidence that they have successfully completed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Filler or Handler course.

Promoting approved Filler and Handler training is a direct response by the industry to the coroner’s findings on the Tamahere disaster.

That enquiry identified a lack of training and knowledge of safe practice in handling refrigerants as a significant contributor to the accident.

CCCA recognised that there was a need for a grace period to allow enough individuals in the industry to complete Filler and Handler training before applying any restriction on sale. By the end of 2014 well over 2000 people will have successfully completed training and hold an EPA approved certificate or License.

“Due diligence” means that al l people handling refrigerants should be properly trained, and trained to a high standard. There should be no shortcuts” says, CCCA Chair, Matthew Darby.

The suppliers that are participating in this scheme are;

• Cooling Supplies

• Patton Ltd

• Realcold Ltd

• Refrigeration Specialties (Refspecs)

CCCA strongly recommends to its members to support these suppliers by purchasing refrigerant from them.

These companies will be attaching details of approved Filler and Handler Certificates to their customer records ensuring that there is an audit trail of each organisation in the supply chain complying with minimum training for safe practice.
