Unison Lights Up Hawke’s Bay this Christmas

Unison Lights Up Hawke’s Bay this Christmas

9 December 2014 - Unison is getting right into the spirit of Christmas this year, having confirmed its sponsorship of two local festive events – the Fiesta of Lights at Hastings Showgrounds and the Tremains Christmas Lights extravaganza.

Unison Chief Executive, Ken Sutherland, said the Company was always keen to get involved in spreading the Christmas cheer within the community, and these two events were a natural fit.

“Unison takes great pride in its sponsorship and support of various community and sporting organisations. It’s great to have some initiatives within our sponsorship portfolio which hold real synergies with our service as the local electricity distributor.

“Both events are great initiatives for adding Christmas spirit and bringing joy to the communities, in a simple yet fun way.”

First launched in 1998, the Fiesta of Lights now features over 500,000 lights illuminating displays of larger than life creations such as toy soldiers, candy canes, teddy bears and a 40m nativity scene. The Unison Christmas tree will be on display once again.

The Fiesta opens this Saturday 13 December at 9pm, and will run through to Saturday 3 January.

The Tremains Christmas Lights extravaganza is now a firm favourite on the calendars of the Hawke’s Bay community each December. Homes, gardens, shops and buildings are draped with lights to create all sorts of magical displays for all to enjoy.

Unison is contributing power vouchers for the ‘Top Ten Best Decorated’ houses, and also running a four-week Christmas competition aimed at families.

“Having launched last week, a life-size cut-out of Powerman will be hidden at one of the houses listed on the Tremains Christmas Lights map, and clues will be released daily on Unison’s Facebook page as to his whereabouts.

“Families are encouraged the crack the clues and track Powerman down - those who find him will go in the draw to win an awesome Christmas prize pack.”
