Local film company gets fourth 2014 international award

 New Zealand film producers CAS’n’OVA PRODUCTIONS has received a fourth award for a short film this year. The best kept secret of film making CAS’n’OVA PRODUCTIONS is based in Christchurch but writer April Phillips is in Wellington.

The note received this week confirmed an earlier call that the film had picked up an Award of Excellence.

The Best Shorts Competition recognizes film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. The two short films received awards in Indie Fest in July in LA: Letter For Hope and Utu Pihikete both produced by Producer/Director Craig Hutchison and written by Wellington writer April Phillips and both shot in Wellington NZ in 2013.

Letter for Hope then won another prestigious prize; an Award of Excellence from The Accolade Global Festival.

“New Zealand has a strong reputation in film and based on my films and New Zealand’s reputation I was honoured to be asked to be a judge for the short films in the Sunset Film Festival of Los Angeles,” said Craig Hutchison, producer.

“In New Zealand we have a distinct perspective and view on the world and our local films reflect that.  As a way of reflecting who we are, and where we are I urge other filmmakers, with passion and ideas to tell our stories.  There is a thriving short film movie sub culture and it ensures we have skilled operators if you know where to look,” said Craig Hutchison.

CAS’N’OVA PRODUCTIONS is preparing to launch a feature film in 2015, Motel, based on the successful stage play performed in 2013.
