Optimalbi Delivers Cloud Bi with Amazon & Yellowfin

New Zealand’s premier Agile Business Intelligence (BI) company, OptimalBI, has launched MagnumBI – its cloud-based Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) automated analytics solution – with BI software vendor, Yellowfin.

Under the agreement, Optimal BI has integrated Yellowfin’s BI solution as part of its hosted automated analtyics platform, deploying Yellowfin via Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) EC2 compute platform. Optimal BI uses AWS’ petabyte-scale data warehouse service, Redshift, as MagnumBI’s back-end componenet.

The newly announced reseller partnership means that OptimalBI is delivering Yellowfin’s easy to use BI platform as a cloud-based hosted solution, on a subscription basis, to clients in New Zealand and Australia. The announcement, timed to coincide with the recent launch of Yellowfin’s free trial offering within the AWS Marketplace, means that companies will be able to get started with BI in the cloud for free with a complimentary 12-month three-user subscription license of Yellowfin (AWS usage fees apply).

“We’re rapidly moving towards a subscription-based cloud economy; self-service dashboarding and reporting should be no different,” said OptimalBI’s Agile BI Architect, Shane Gibson. “Under our MagnumBI offering, we utilize Redshift and Yellowfin to provide a fully managed Cloud BI service that is available in less than an hour.”

Gibson said that MagnumBI – in conjunction with Yellowfin’s new AWS trial offer – delivered a risk free way for organizations to get started with BI quickly and easily scale to meet growing demand for reporting and analytics.

"The Yellowfin AWS Marketplace offering is a great way to try Yellowfin at no license cost and with no risk,” said Gibson. “When organizations are ready to migrate from their Yellowfin AWS trial environment to our fully managed AWS environment, we make that transition with minimal fuss and disruption. Yellowfin upgrade their software every six to eight months, bringing out a bunch of new features. With our Cloud BI managed service in MagnumBI, we’ll automatically upgrade the Yellowfin capability for them.”

Gibson added that MagnumBI would also enable clients to avoid the drain of managing and maintaining an on-premise deployment.

“For a lot of our corporate customers, they will need ongoing support and management of their Yellowfin environment to meet their corporate and ICT governance requirements,” said Gibson. “When you’re talking about production environments with a number of users, having a support network to manage everything adds another level of security and protection from failures or fallovers.”

Yellowfin General Manager for APAC, Patrick Elliott, said that the Yellowfin – OptimalBI partnership would make world-class BI accessible to all types of organizations throughout New Zealand and Australia.

“As a fully managed Cloud BI platfrom, OptimalBI’s MagnumBI service will enable small to midsized organizations across New Zealand and Australia to utilize a market-leading platform for reporting and analtyics for the first time,” said Elliott. “MagnumBI is also good news for large corporations, who will be able to dedicate their IT resources towards developing better BI content and more insightful data analysis, rather than the day-to-day grind of BI maintenance.”
