Contribution to Māori Television Acknowledged

Māori Television has recognised the contribution of long serving Board member and Deputy Chair Tahu Potiki as he steps down from the Board.

Māori TV Chair Georgina te Heuheu and Te Pūtahi Paoho Chair Willie Jackson jointly acknowledged Mr Potiki’s contribution to Māori Television since joining the Board in 2006, on appointment by Te Pūtahi Paoho (The Māori TV Electoral College).

Mrs te Heuheu said, “Mr Potiki has made a significant contribution to Māori broadcasting over the years and particularly in helping Māori TV cement its place in television broadcasting.Tahu's steadfast commitment to the kaupapa of revitalising the Māori language and culture through broadcasting has been greatly appreciated, as has his clear and insightful thinking on all matters coming before the Board.”

Te Pūtahi Paoho Chair Willie Jackson said Mr Potiki leaves, having served the kaupapa of Māori TV with distinction.

“Tahu has been a real strength for Māori TV. His knowledge of corporate governance and understanding of the Māori political dimension has served the channel well in often challenging times. He is respected for his clear thinking at the Board table, and has remained firmly focused on Māori TV delivering for our people," Mr Jackson said.

Mr Potiki has decided to step down from the Board to focus on matters closer to home, including spending more time with his family. He leaves feeling confident the Broadcaster is heading in the right direction.

"I have really enjoyed my time on the Board of Māori TV," said Mr Potiki. " It has been a privilege to be part of a vehicle that is growing the use of our reo and tikanga throughout Aotearoa.

"I am confident Māori TV will continue to grow and excel and I wish the Board and staff the very best for the future", Mr Potiki said.

In acknowledging his contribution, both Mrs te Heuheu and Mr Jackson expressed their best wishes to Mr Potiki and his whānau. Te Pūtahi Paoho will begin the search for a suitable replacement on the Board of Māori Television in the New Year.
