New Business at The Landing

House of Travel and 24-hour Snap Fitness Health Club to open at Queenstown’s The Landing

The latest to join a host of exciting new businesses at The Landing development, Queenstown, are worldwide gym sensation Snap Fitness and House of Travel.

The Landing will host the South Island’s first Snap Fitness health club, an international success story that began in 2003 and now has over 1,500 locations – including clubs across the US, Hong Kong and Australia.

Franchise owners and new Snap Fitness team Daniel Parsonage, Kurt Monkley and Hannah Dodd are ready and raring to go, planning to drive Queenstown and The Landing into a fitness frenzy, opening at the beginning of March 2015.

“The Landing is a great location for our community-focused health club,” said Ms Dodd.

“We’re keen to bring a community feel to the fitness scene and the gym will be focussed on a comfortable, social and friendly environment.”

The 420sqm gym will be open 24 hours a day, have state-of-the-art equipment and an online service with access to personalised workouts and meal plans, inspiring e-books and helpful tips.

Social media will play a big role in the health club – all cardio machines are ‘online’ so users can check-in on Facebook on the treadmill and connect with friends and family on the cross-trainer.

“I think it will appeal to a range of people, and we look forward to welcoming our first members,” said Ms Dodd.

Businessman John Harley will be opening his sixth House of Travel store in Otago, bringing a wealth of tourism trade experience to Queenstown. The store will have four staff and will feature the full House of Travel range – from local trips and experiences to everything travellers need to put together their big ‘OE’.

“This is the pinnacle – the whole group is really excited to bring a full-service House of Travel to Queenstown,” said Mr Harley.

“I’m particularly excited to be part of The Landing shopping centre, which is taking great shape as a real business hub and retail centre. It’s a good spot, full of potential.”

Mr Harley has worked with House of Travel since 1996 and previously worked with Air New Zealand. The newest branch is scheduled to open mid-April.

“I’ve been working on this one for four years, so it’s great to have an opening date,” he said.

The first stage of The Landing officially opened at the beginning of this month (December) with Australasia’s leading automotive re-seller Repco becoming the first of the anchor tenants to open its doors.

South Island area manager Ken Olley has reported strong trading since opening their second store in Queenstown.

Repco and other new businesses will be joined by former Dunedin ‘locals’ Ed and Bryony Devereux who will open Odelay Café, an Alpine-inspired space nestled into a sheltered North-facing position with seating indoors and out, while well-known local businesswomen Christine and Sharron Holland will also launch Queenstown’s first hair and fashion concept store.

Auckland-based premium meat providers Neat Meat will open its second retail store and wholesale business.

Australian-owned Mexican franchise Zambrero has announced it will open at The Landing next year, alongside well-known health providers Remarkable Physios offering a complete client care package as it relocates its existing Frankton business.

A Christchurch-based ethnic grocery specialist will join the ‘mix’ at The Landing, offering foods from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Set on 1.2 hectares, The Landing is Queenstown’s latest retail development and includes 110 car parks, 16 retail units, large green spaces, wide pathways, public seating and toilets and an abundance of bike parks.

The high-profile position, opposite the entrance to Remarkables Park Town Centre and adjoining Queenstown Airport, already has extremely good traffic movement.

A limited number of medium to large format retail premises are currently still available from 50 to 400sqm but the managers anticipate all premises will be leased by early 2015.

Leading local construction company Rilean started work on the development in July 2014. Stage One is now completed, with Stage Two on schedule to open mid April 2015.
