Buchan’s New Addition on Colombo Street

Buchan’s New Addition on Colombo Street

819 Colombo Street has received a new lease on life thanks to a complete $1.6 million building replacement by global architects The Buchan Group last month.

The 372m2 double storey building, located on the corner of Colombo and Peterborough Street, boasts a ground floor level, an accompanying mezzanine and first floor office.

Acclaimed Australasian design firm The Buchan Group was appointed by The Law Family Trust in August 2013 to complete and oversee concept designs through to site administration works, including Resource Consent and Building Consent documentation. The Buchan Group also managed the tender process on behalf of the client.

A key design priority was to incorporate as many sustainable design features throughout the building as possible, including the removal of onsite car parking to encourage alternative transport methods in a hope to reduce patrons’ carbon footprint.

The Buchan Group’s Senior Associate Eric Buhrs said the design responded to the client’s brief and vision for the site by incorporating flexibility of use, sustainability and innovative features.

“Our brief was to create an oversized ground floor and partnering mezzanine to house a hospitality or retail tenant, and a flexible first floor that could be transformed into either a residential apartment or office space,” he said.
