Voluntary Recall of Shark Vacuum Model HV300NZ

Voluntary Recall of Shark Vacuum Model HV300NZ

A voluntary recall has been announced today on the Shark Rocket Ultra-Light (model number HV300NZ) vacuum cleaner.

There is an issue with the cord assembly of the product that may result in premature cord failure in some vacuum cleaners near the strain relief, and a risk of burn or electric shock.

Shark Rocket Ultra-Light vacuum cleaners manufactured from 16 January 2014 to 15 November 2014 with a production code in the range of 0314A through to 4614A are affected by the recall. Shark Rocket Ultra-Light HV300NZ products manufactured on or after 15 November 2014 are not affected.

Consumers are advised to unplug their vacuum cleaner at the wall and not to use it again until it has been repaired.

Brand Developers, the exclusive New Zealand distributor of Shark products, is carrying out the voluntary recall in conjunction with Euro-Pro, owner of the popular floorcare brand Shark, and in consultation with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

Two other models of Shark vacuum cleaners are also being recalled concurrently – the Shark Navigator Lift-Away (NV350NZ) manufactured prior to 18 October 2014 (that bear a production code 0112A to 5213A inclusive) and the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional (NV356NZ).

All affected models, including the Shark Rocket Ultra-Light vacuum cleaners, require a cord and plug replacement that will be installed free of charge through an authorised Shark Service Centre.

Euro-Pro is assuring its customers and retail partners that the company is taking this safety issue seriously. It remains committed to providing quality, safe products, it says.

Affected units of Shark Rocket Ultra-Light (HV300NZ) vacuum cleaners have been withdrawn from sale. They were sold through the TV Shop and electrical retailers including Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming, Mitre 10 and Farmers.

Consumers are advised to visit www.sharkclean.co.nz for guidance on identifying the affected models and for instructions on how to return for repair. A dedicated Shark customer service team is available for any consumer queries on 0800 109 009.
