Congratulations to Forum finalists in safety awards

Congratulations to the senior New Zealand business leaders who have been publicly recognised for their personal commitment to protecting the health and safety of workers.

Albert Brantley, CEO Genesis Energy; James Fletcher, Managing Director OCS; and Natasha Possenniskie, Property Director, Department of Corrections were today named finalists in the Executive of the Year category of the NZ Workplace Health and Safety Awards.

The category recognises the crucial role senior leaders play in creating safe workplaces, and is sponsored by the Business Leaders’ Health and Safety Forum.

“Albert, James and Natasha all have great stories to tell about what individual leaders can achieve when they are committed to health and safety,” Forum acting executive director Frances Martin says.

“But as well as recognising individual efforts, these awards reflect a growing awareness in New Zealand of the vital role leaders must play in creating safe and healthy workplaces,” Ms Martin says.

“Five years ago you really didn’t hear people talk that much about health and safety leadership. Most people thought health and safety was the health and safety manager’s job – not the chief executives.

“Now there is a growing understanding that the leaders at the top of our businesses must be involved in order to create safe workplaces. Health and safety managers can’t achieve this on their own.”

Frances congratulated other finalists at the awards – many of whom belong to Forum organisations. Winners for all categories, and an overall winner, will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland on 27th May.
