Te Pūtahitanga appoints new board member

Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu, the South Island Whānau Ora commissioning agency, today announced the appointment of Mrs Gena Moses - Te Kani to its board.

Mrs Moses – Te Kani (Ngāti Kuia, Rangitāne, Ngāti Toa, Muaūpoko) is self-employed and has also been involved in the establishment of Te Pūtahitanga through her role as deputy kaiwhakahaere of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Kuia, one of nine iwi that oversee Te Pūtahitanga through its iwi governance group, Te Taumata.

Te Pūtahitanga board chair Norm Dewes said he welcomes Mrs Moses – Te Kani’s appointment. “Gena brings governance experience and expertise to our board and we are looking forward to her contribution in supporting all whānau in Te Waipounamu. Her first-hand knowledge of Te Pūtahitanga, and her work as an iwi facilitator and project manager means she will bring core skills and strengths to help our board achieve our vision. ”

Mrs Moses Te Kani’s appointment follows the resignation of former board member Maria Pera who has been appointed as a Senior Advisor - Regional Partnerships, in the Invercargill region, for Te Puni Kōkiri.

Mr Dewes also paid tribute to Mrs Pera. “Maria’s contribution to Te Pūtahitanga, especially in its establishment, has been immense. Whilst we are sad to lose her as a board member, Te Pūtahitanga congratulates her on her appointment to her new role with Te Puni Kōkiri.”

“Te Pūtahitanga has already given support to important initiatives like ‘He toki ki te mahi’ and ‘Whenuakura’. The successful launches of these programmes signal our intent to continue to support initiatives that will help achieve our vision – ‘Whānau rangatiratanga, whānau oranga.’ We look forward to the launches of other key initiatives in the very near future.”
