Ratepayers' Alliance Backs Investigation Call
Ratepayers' Alliance Backs Investigation Call
Responding to the NBR report that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce is calling for an investigation into the Council’s undercutting of events businesses, Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson, Jo Holmes, says:
“Events businesses have found themselves in a position where they cannot criticise the Council for fear of being blacklisted for further contracts, but cannot sit by idle while the Council looks to monopolise their industry.”
“The Council should not be in the business of using ratepayers’ money to chase rate-paying businesses out of the market and destroy private sector jobs.”
“The allegations raised by the Chamber of Commerce are very serious ones, which point to a culture of fear amongst Auckland businesses owners who are too scared to voice their concerns about Council practices. We support all efforts to ensure there is an investigation into this matter.”
