Tupari wins “Noble” Trophy at the International Wine Show

Tupari Wines wins “Noble” Trophy at the International Wine Show.

Artisan Awatere Valley winery, Tupari Wines, has won a gold medal and trophy at the acclaimed 2014 International Wine Challenge. The trophy winning wine is the winery’s first production of dessert wine, the 2014 Tupari Late Harvest Riesling.

The judges described the winning wine as: “Honeyed apple and lime on nose and palate. Apricot and botrytis character. Concentrated and taut, with well balanced acidity and sweetness. Clean dry finish.”

This wine was produced from our small block of Riesling grown on the Awatere River Terraces on the Tupari Vineyard. The weather conditions at the end of the 2014 vintage were perfect for “Noble Rot,” the special type of botrytis required to produce these wines. The grapes were harvested at 35 Brix resulting in a highly concentrated wine with outstanding flavour.

Winemaker Glenn Thomas said “It is crucial for the right conditions to occur at the right time to get the desirable botrytis infection. There are a lot of variables, which is what makes it challenging to produce these wines. The 2014 vintage was just about perfect for us, and being our first attempt at this style of wine we are thrilled with receiving this trophy.”

Check out this ‘Noble ‘ wine at exceptional restaurants, Glengarry’s Wine Stores and fine wine outlets throughout the country.
