Air NZ high-flyer joins Cawthron Institute

Former World of WearableArt (WOW) CEO and Air New Zealand senior manager, Meg Matthews, has been appointed as a new director of Cawthron Institute, New Zealand’s largest independent science organisation.

Ms Matthews, formerly the head of Australasia marketing for Air New Zealand, started her career at the national airline as an accountant in 1996 after beginning her trade with Deloitte. She is a qualified accountant with a diverse and impressive track record of experience across key business disciplines of finance, human resource management, strategic planning and marketing.

“I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to join the Board of Cawthron Institute,” Ms Matthews says. “The Cawthron organisation is an exciting story of history, vision, leadership and ground-breaking scientific research that benefits the primary industries of New Zealand.”

Ms Matthews moved to Nelson in 2012 to become Chief Executive of WOW, leading its international expansion and negotiating exhibitions at Te Papa and the long term partnership agreement with Wellington City Council. She stepped down from the role in mid-2014 to spend more time with her young family.

Cawthron Institute Board Chairman, Ian Kearney, says Ms Matthew’s will be an asset to his board and the wider organisation.

“Her broad experience and expertise across the full business spectrum will be greatly appreciated as we continue to enhance and add value to the important work we do here at Cawthron, and to the relationships we have with our clients and research partners.”
