Kapiti Cakes comes fifth in Supreme Pie Awards 2015

Kapiti Cakes comes fifth in the Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards 2015.

Paraparaumu-based bakery Kapiti Cakes has secured a top ten placing at the 19th annual Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards in the Gourmet Fruit category.

The team at Kapiti Cakes crafted a delicious Dutch Spiced Apple Pie which came fifth in the Gourmet Fruit Category. This pie featured apples infused with apple liquor, supreme shortbread crust and was topped with rose cut from an apple.

“It was fully a team effort, we all came together to create it” says Kapiti Cakes owner, Thomas Thomas.

“We are satisfied with our top ten placing but we will be going after that number one spot next year,” adds Thomas.

Over 5000 pies were entered into the various categories at the annual Bakels New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards this year. The panel of 21 judges spent more than 10 hours on July 16 judging the pies, which were blind coded in 12 categories.

“We have been improving with our efforts. Two years ago we entered and didn’t even place while last year we came in seventh in the gourmet fruit category. So our fifth placing this year is a big improvement and we are still aiming for that number one spot,” says Thomas.

Using only quality and fresh products, Paraparaumu-based Kapiti Cakes are industry leaders and are no strangers to winning, having won numerous awards for their stellar performances. In 2012 Kapiti Cakes finished second for the bakery-of-the -title and were a finalist for a regional business award.
