Businesses should follow ANZ
The UN Women National Committee Aotearoa New Zealand
(UN Women NCANZ) is calling on all businesses in New Zealand
to follow ANZ and continue to top up KiwiSaver for staff
while they are on parental leave.
“The bold step announced today by ANZ Bank to support women while they take time away from work to raise their family, is groundbreaking and well past time,” says Angela McLeod President of UN Women NCANZ.
“Women especially are discriminated at the time of retirement with savings of more than $60.000 below that of men at the same age.
“The empowerment of women in the workplace is vital for economic and social reasons and is good for business.
“We congratulate ANZ for identifying how they can empower women in their workplace and for helping to close the gender gap at retirement.
“UN Women NCANZ calls on other businesses to follow suit – it is good for women, it’s good for business and it’s good for New Zealand,” says Mrs McLeod.
