Taranaki Region’s finest homes announced

Taranaki Region’s finest homes announced

A new build and a renovation in New Plymouth have been revealed as this year’s top Taranaki homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2015 House of the Year.

Pepper Construction took out five regional awards with their winning home, including a Gold Award and category win for the ITM New Home up to $300,000, as well as the Taranaki Registered Master Builders Supreme Award for the 2015 House of the Year. The company won the Craftsmanship Award and the Resene Sustainable Home Award for the same entry.

Bell Building was awarded the Supreme Award for Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2015 Renovation of the Year, as well as a Gold Award and overall category win for the SafetyMate Renovation Award over $500,000.

The judges called Pepper Construction’s winning home a magical place to have a weekend away.

“This home is only about 65 square metres, beautifully built and totally sustainable. It collects its own rain water, has solar panels and its own sewage system,” they said.

“The location of this build posed challenges for the builder, with limited access resulting in all materials having to be carried down to the site. This home is outstanding – an absolute gem.”

Bell Building’s winning renovation impressed judges with its complete rebuild of one half of this Victorian home.

“This renovation was a seamless extension of an original villa from the 1900s. The home was transported from its original site and expanded, in keeping with the authentic detailing and structure,” they said.

“Attention to detail was so meticulous that the builder managed to retain the wallpaper from more than 100 years ago. This was a scrupulous marriage of old and new which the builder should be exceptionally proud of.”

The results were revealed at a gala dinner on Friday 7 August at Devon Hotel in New Plymouth. The winning builders were recognised by members of the Taranaki Registered Master Builders and members of the local building industry.

There were 10 Gold Award winners from the Taranaki region which will now be eligible, alongside Gold Award winners from up and down the country, to become National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for Renovation of the Year and House of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in November.

The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build Services, James Hardie, GIB, Nulook, SafetyMate, Carters, ITM, Plumbing World, Resene, Westpac and Mitre 10.
