The Craft Haus by Opus Fresh

The Craft Haus by Opus Fresh

Three years after launching to the tune of $154,000USD on crowd funding platform Kickstarter, New Zealand made adventure brand Opus Fresh Apparel Company has opened its doors to a new kind of retail experience. 'The Craft Haus' complete with on site coffee roaster, is designed as a space to showcase the entire Opus range while bringing in spattering of other local makers of premium art, jewelry and functional designer clothing.

Based at the foot of Mt Ruapehu in Ohakune New Zealand, the Craft Haus is in a national heritage building and based on the platform, is the original railway station for the area. Railway sleepers and thick slabs of Macrocarpa break up the crisp white painted walls, while the dual open fire can be seen roaring away in the winter months.

Opus Fresh Apparel Co was established in 2012 to make performance athletic –adventure gear that “seamlessly merges outdoors functionality with inner-city style”.

Co-founder James Simpson comes from a mixed background of adventure sports and was previously employed by outdoors company Macpac.

“We've always been fascinated with improving human performance through technology and equipment, but we were frustrated with the lack of outdoors gear that could be worn from the mountains/rivers to the city streets/office,” explains James.

"We basically wanted to make gear that brings an element of designer style into an otherwise monotonous outdoors market."

The Craft Haus launched with a 'welcome to winter' party at the end of July backed by the likes of Red Bull and Moa Beer (video -https://vimeo.com/134719622 )

"We welcome people to pop in, check out the art and design store, feel the premium grade merino and grab a double shot espresso, we'll put the billy on" – James
