Top quality speakers for NZ Syrah Workshop 2015

It is with great excitement that the Organising Committee announces a top quality line up of speakers for the 10th Workshop being held 4-6 November 2015 at Bayview Chateau Tongariro, Mt Ruapehu.

Gary Mills, Winemaker, Jamsheed Wines, Victoria, Australia will be looking at his four single vineyard sites over a particular years and the terroir expressed between them. Four distinct site spread across Victoria:
Upper Yarra Valley - a cooler site on red volcanic soils producing wines of spice and silky texture
Pyrenees - pink quartz laced granite profile producing deep rugged wines with particular savoury appeal and tenacity

Beechworth - high altitude granite site that reveals wines of depth and character
Great Western - 130 year old clay over ironstone slice of history. Soulful wines
The presentation will also incorporate a tasting.

Gary is joined by Graeme Bott, an expat kiwi working for Domaine Stephane Ogier, France which is based in the heart of Ampuis, Domaine Stephane Ogier is fortunate enough to hold some of the most prestigious vineyard parcels in Cote Rotie.
A presentation of 8 single vineyard wines from Domaine Stephane Ogier will be accompanied by a complete dissection of the Cote Rotie appellation, covering the history, different soil structures and terroir, farming and winemaking techniques used today.
A brief look into the Condrieu and Saint Joseph appellations will round off the tasting of the different Northern Rhone appellations

Joining this line up is Kirsten Creasy, Oenologist (AKA The Wine Lady) from Hill Laboratories, who will explore the commercial analysis of the phenolic profile of wine varieties and regions in New Zealand which is relatively new. She will be discussing the results of three trials from the 2015 vintage which compared different processing methods; the inclusion of viognier into a ferment and ferment size.

Paul Dawick, Mills Reef Winery, Committee Chairs says “that 2013 and 2014 harvests are vintages that have provided plenty of discussion and have pushed the winemaking boundaries. Now we have the opportunity to peer review current barrel samples in a collegial environment, together with learning from enthusiastic and passionate speakers.”
