Waikato Travel Agent Wins National Award

Waikato Travel Agent Wins National Award

A Waikato travel agent with two decades of experience has been honoured at a national industry awards ceremony.

Judy Harkness of Calder & Lawson House of Travel has won Best Travel Consultant - Retail at the recent TAANZ National Travel Industry Awards.

Just a year ago, the four-time award winner was recognised by her own organisation for her outstanding commitment to the travel industry.

Harkness credits her most recent success to a more than 20 year career in the travel industry, and says it is the relationships forged during that time which have ultimately seen her work recognised.

“Obviously with this significant amount of time working in the industry you have relationships that go back years and years. My relationships with my clients, my contacts and my suppliers has meant that I’m able to provide a valuable service where everyone benefits and I’m thrilled to be honoured in such a way,” she says.

Harkness herself has visited more than 40 countries and says it’s often her own personal insight and experience of a destination that clients find so useful.

She says travel is her passion, and advises those wanting to succeed in the industry to ensure they stay abreast of market trends in the constantly evolving industry.

“I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep yourself educated. I’m always attending information evenings about upcoming product offers my clients could benefit from. And of course travel and plenty of trips away so you can best advise your clients on where their next holiday should be!”
