Twin international trophy wins for Sacred Hill

Sacred Hill Brokenstone 2013 has taken out a trophy in the Six Nations Wine Challenge this week, hot on the heels of a Regional Trophy win for its Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014 at the recent Decanter Asia awards.

The trophy for Best Non Bordeaux Red at the Six Nations Wine Challenge was presented in Sydney last night, with Sacred Hill’s Brokenstone edging out competitors from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA in the quest to find the champion new world wines.

A delighted Sacred Hill managing director David Mason says the recent trophy wins are a welcome reward for the Sacred Hill winemaking team who put their heart and soul into making world class, deliciously drinkable wines to share with family, friends and food.

“We don’t make wine with trophies in mind but it is tremendously gratifying for the whole Sacred Hill team to have our wines recognised as champions by the judges.”

Sacred Hill Brokenstone 2013 is a Merlot dominant blend that also features Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is one of three Sacred Hill Special Selection reds, together with Helmsman and Deerstalkers, grown in the Gimblett Gravels sub region of Hawke’s Bay.

All three 2013 releases have distinguished themselves recently with the Deerstalkers Syrah rated 95/100 in Decanter’s Syrah tasting and the flagship Helmsman receiving a perfect 100/100 from New Zealand wine critic Sam Kim.

The trophy wins for Brokenstone 2013 and Orange Label Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014 continue a golden run for Sacred Hill’s current releases. Its Orange Label Sauvignon Blanc 2014 was a gold medal winner at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards and the HALO Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013 won gold at the Royal Easter Show.
