Judging panel announced for 2015 iSANZ Awards

Judging panel announced for 2015 iSANZ Awards

Seven widely respected people from across New Zealand’s information security (InfoSec) community have today been announced as judges in the 2015 iSANZ Awards.

Recognising excellence in the country’s world-class InfoSec industry, this year’s iSANZ Awards judging line up includes:

Privacy Commissioner John Edwards, Victoria University lecturer Ian Welch, Massey University lecturer Ryan Ko, industrial researcher Paul Watters, Auckland University computer scientist Peter Gutmann, Netsafe Executive Director Martin Cocker and InternetNZ Chief Executive Jordan Carter.

The judges will assess shortlisted entries in the five Award categories – no small task, given the breadth and quality of InfoSec work being done here in New Zealand and by expatriate New Zealanders abroad.

Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner to be held Tuesday, 8 December 2015 at Wellington’s Te Papa Museum.

This year’s iSANZ Awards have the backing of a who’s who of sponsors, including Gold Sponsor Check Point and Silver Sponsors Arbor Networks, EY.com, BlueCoat, KPMG Cyber Services, Microsoft, PwC and Quantum Security. Supporting organisations are 1st Tuesday, Connect Smart, the Domain Name Commission, Duo, InternetNZ, the New Zealand Internet Task Force and SiteHost.

iSANZ Committee Chair Kendra Ross says in this day and age of “always on, online” the need to keep networks safe from criminal and malicious activity is more important than ever.

“There’s an army of New Zealand InfoSec professionals beavering away making valuable contributions to the safety and security of computer networks here and overseas. The judges will sure have their work cut out.”

Most importantly, she says, it’s not too late to lodge an Award entry. Entries close at noon on Friday, 30 October 2015, while nominations in the Hall of Fame category are open right up until the day of the awards.

Full information about the Award categories and entry details can be found at www.isanz.org.nz.
