Keeping up with New Zealand's booming online retail industry

KEEPING UP WITH NEW ZEALAND’S BOOMING ONLINE RETAIL INDUSTRY

New Zealand’s love affair with digital is continually growing and especially in the online retail sector where sales have increased more than 9% over the past year according to the latest BNZ and Marketview report. This is great news for the overall sector, however, international online retail sales still account for 45% of the spend which means local operators need to work harder and smarter just to compete.

Building on the strength and success of the original and most established retail conference and exhibition in Australia, Online Retailer returns to NZ for a second year this coming Thursday.

Online Retailer is an event dedicated to professionals that want to get their hands dirty and become smarter at doing things. For retailers to keep up with this fast changing industry and adapt to new customers behaviours, they need to become more customer centric and deliver memorable experiences.

Ruth Brown, Head of User Experience at Trade me, the largest Internet-auction website operating in NZ, will present at Online Retailer on Thursday and will offer insights into how to understand customer behaviours and to use them to advantage. “I’m looking forward to the online retailer conference on Thursday. I love learning from people in the same industry – about their successes and challenges," Ruth Brown explained. "The organisers have put together a great line up of speakers that I am really excited to hear from, both from across the ditch and here locally.”

In a world dominated by technology and where the next generation of shoppers are young, mobile and social, Online Retailer will discuss the best ways to connect and grow sales. Philippa Ward, Content Manager from Farmers will present on how important it is to connect with social customers to increase sales conversion and gain measurable results. “I’m really looking forward to Online Retailer this week. These events are always a great opportunity to meet up with other people working in ecommerce and get some fresh new ideas," Ms Ward said.

Online Retailer will also feature presenters who have international experience and they will provide their digital insights throughout the day. Louisa Simpson who is Head of Online at Pacific Brands(Bonds) in Australia will share insights of her own in-house conversion rate optimisation (CRO) program and talk about how this is helping her create a data-driven culture in her online business.

Online Retailer will pack in 30 speakers across two streams throughout the eight hour program.
