Kiwi Startup JUCEBOX Selected for Web Summit ALPHA Programme

Kiwi Startup JUCEBOX Selected for Web Summit ALPHA Programme

30 OCTOBER 2015

New Zealand tech start-up JUCEBOX has achieved a major opportunity, being selected for the ALPHA Programme at the world’s most influential tech event, Web Summit, happening in Dublin next week, the 3rd – 5th November this year.

The ALPHA programme is for selected start-ups that meet Web Summit criteria for innovation and potential, giving selected companies free exhibition space, mentoring and access to thousands of potential tech investors.

Web Summit has been described as “the best technology conference on the planet,” and this year will attract more than 30,000 registered attendees and 1,500 technology journalists from around the world.

JUCEBOX founder Ulrich Frerk says that the opportunity is “massive”.

Last year the 40 startups that exhibited at Web Summit went on to raise around USD 1 Billion in funding in the months following the event.

“Being selected as an ALPHA is great recognition that JUCEBOX is the right product at the right time to capitalise on the explosion of smart buildings and devices worldwide,” he said.

JUCEBOX is described as an ‘Universal Device Communicator’ specifically designed to solve the problems caused by the lack of connectivity and communication between the growing number of smart devices, building control systems and machines in a person’s home, business or social network.

Utilising its own operating system, the jOS, and powerful purpose designed hardware, the JUCEBOX can communicate in all device languages at a phenomenal speed to effectively operate all kinds of devices, appliances and machines.

“We’re seeing a huge number of products being released into the market with ‘smart’ capabilities, but until now there is no single device that can effectively bring them all together with other ‘dumb’ technologies into a functioning eco-system,” Frerk says.

“JUCEBOX can do this and is uniquely positioned to be the leading product in this exciting new category,” he said.

JUCEBOX is powered by a balanced team of entrepreneurs and business people all of whom bring skills, talent and experience to the table. Technology entrepreneur Ulrich Frerk takes the helm, ably supported by Chad Carter, both utilizing skills and experience in technology, distribution and operations. Driving strategic direction and execution, Michael Hunt draws on his business experience in start-ups and entry into world markets, Nick Jack brings his Legal and finance experience oversight and Paul Blomfield’s experience is in media, PR and Communications.

Roland Meissner provides branding and design skills to the team, supported by creative guru Murry Pretcherer, completing a well rounded team able to monetise the JUCEBOX concept and to blue sky great opportunities to take JUCEBOX to market and into the future.

“Being selected to be part of the ALPHA programme is the kind of endorsement we need to attract the investment to bring it to market,” he said.
