Most impressive wine visit in Australasia opens its doors

9 November 2016

“The most impressive wine visit in Australasia” opens its doors to the public

Pyramid Valley Vineyards in North Canterbury is now open to the public by appointment, making it possible for people to experience first-hand what one of the world’s most acclaimed wine writers recently experienced.
Lisa Perrortti Brown from the highly acclaimed Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate publication recently wrote “Pyramid Valley was my most impressive visit this trip to New Zealand and indeed of all my Australia / New Zealand visits this year. You may think you know New Zealand wines but I can assure you that until you have tasted Pyramid Valley, you have no idea.”

The high profile biodynamic and natural wine producer has been inundated with requests from people wanting to visit the property after the wine publication comments hit global headlines.

“It was always our vision to share what has been created at Pyramid Valley with people from all around the world by providing an educational and informative experience through wine. Now we want to take that a step further and show people the heart of Pyramid Valley,” says co-owner Claudia Weersing.

In addition to the traditional cellar door tasting experience, the winery is offering an estate tour that involves a one hour walk through the slopes of the vineyards learning about viticulture and biodynamics with skilled practitioners from the estate. This is followed by a winery tour explaining natural winemaking techniques before visitors are taken through an informative tasting of the estate’s wines from its Home Collection and Growers Collection ranges.

“This is an in-depth experience for anyone interested in viticulture and winemaking who wants to understand how fine wine is made as naturally as possible using uniquely developed techniques and philosophies, while having the opportunity to taste historical wines from the estate, which are rare to come by now ” says Weersing.

The experience is finished with customers being able to relax in the newly appointed tasting room, under the walnut tree, or in various parts of the property that have been created for guests, with deli style offerings.
There are also numerous estate animals readily visible, so all can see and appreciate the workings of a fully operational biodynamic wine estate.

Opening hours for the cellar door are by appointment Thursdays to Saturday 10am to 4pm. The property tour is offered on Saturdays, commencing at 9.30am until 11.30am. Bookings are essential for Saturday tours and are limited to 20 people (see website for more information). Contact the winery on 03 314 2006 or info@pyramidvalley.co.nz to arrange an appointment.
