Stellar line up of finalists announced for 2015 iSANZ Awards

Media release – 19 November 2015

In a nod to the health and vitality of New Zealand’s information security (InfoSec) industry, a stellar line up of finalists have today been announced for the 2015 iSANZ Awards.

The iSANZ Awards are New Zealand’s only dedicated Awards that recognise and celebrate the achievements of those on the frontline of cyber security. The Awards will be held on the evening of 8 December at Wellington’s Te Papa Museum.

iSANZ Chair Kendra Ross says the organising Board was inundated with dozens of high quality entries this year. From the many entries received, the Awards judges have recognised the following finalists:

Best Security Project or Initiative (sponsored by KPMG Cyber Security)
Axenic, New Zealand Internet Task Force, New Zealand Police.

Best Security Awareness Campaign (sponsored by Quantum Security)
Department of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Social Development, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Best Security Company (sponsored by Blue Coat)
Lateral Security, Aura Information Security Ltd, Vodafone.

Best International Super Star (sponsored by Context IS)
Colin James, Professor Clark Thomborson, Chris Blunt.

Nominations in a fifth ‘Hall of Fame’ category are open until 4 December 2015 and can be made by emailing nominations@isanz.org.nz. This is proving to be a hotly contested category, says Kendra.

“We’re strongly encouraged to have received entries from across New Zealand’s public and private sectors, as well as from the InfoSec community itself. The breadth and depth of the work being done by the finalists is proof positive that our information security space is in fine shape.”

Kendra says the technology landscape has changed beyond recognition in recent years and good information security practice is now more important than ever.

“The contributions of New Zealand individuals and organisations in helping see off a growing number of cyber threats is immeasurable. Reading through this year’s iSANZ entries, it’s clear that this country possesses InfoSec capability the equal of anywhere in the world.”

Tickets to the iSANZ Awards dinner will shortly be made available. Space is limited so early booking is encouraged. Tickets can be obtained by emailing info@isanz.org.nz.

The 2015 iSANZ Awards have the backing of Gold Sponsor Check Point Software Technologies. Silver Sponsors are Arbor Networks, EY.com, BlueCoat, KPMG Cyber Services, Microsoft and Quantum Security. Supporting organisations are 1st Tuesday, Connect Smart, the Domain Name Commission, Duo, InternetNZ, the New Zealand Internet Task Force and SiteHost.
