BP Returns to Fendalton
BP Returns to Fendalton
BP re-opened its Fendalton store on Wednesday 2 December, after a major re-build closed the site for nine weeks.
Located at 1 Memorial Avenue in Christchurch and nestled between three schools and Canterbury University, BP Connect Fendalton is a convenient pit-stop for Cantabrians.
BP Head of Retail Frank van Hattum said the company wanted to re-build the store in order to “provide the best possible offer to the community”.
“A number of others have chosen to compete in the area by operating a budget model, but BP won’t cut corners on quality – that applies to both our fuel and our shop offer.
“Fendalton locals and visitors deserve a quality product, service and experience, so we have worked hard to ensure they get exactly what they need.
BP Connect Fendalton has widened lanes for easier access, additional parking spaces, forecourt service and upgraded bathroom facilities.
With a Wild Bean Cafe offering comfortable seating, free WIFI and free newspapers to read while you are waiting, BP Connect Fendalton is a one-stop shop.
“Our free WIFI is particularly popular amongst uni students,” Mr van Hattum said.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand Southern Region Manager Stu Bryce said it was great that BP Connect Fendalton was back in business.
“We have eight clubs operating in the Christchurch area that all need BP fuel for their IRBs and utility vehicles in order to carry out their lifesaving services.
“An extra BP location is great news for our clubbies traveling between those clubs, especially one with a Wild Bean Cafe for their coffee fix!” he said.
Mr van Hattum proudly noted that Wild Bean Cafe is the number one retailer of barista-made coffee in New Zealand and said the company had used Fairtrade coffee since 2008.
“Customers can also take home our used coffee grinds to use in their gardens.”
“We’re committed to delivering sustainable and efficient operations every day by educating staff, making correct supplier and partner choices and through sustainable construction decisions,” van Hattum said.
The BP Connect Fendalton store is also on the company’s national recycling program that saved more than 800 tonnes of waste from going to landfill and 70 million litres of car wash water in the past 12 months.
The water recycling program means that during times of water restrictions, BP is able to keep its carwash open.
“This is an initiative that other retailers are yet to implement to this level or scale,” van Hattum said.
BP has also invested in bright energy efficient LED lighting to reduce the site’s power consumption and has installed heat pump technology that allows exhaust heat from air conditioning and refrigeration plants to be recycled and used to heat the building’s water, delivering a sustainable and cost-effective solution.
The 24-hour Fendalton operation features a BP Superwash and offers BP’s full suite of fuels across every pump – Unleaded 91, 95, 98 and Ultimate Diesel.
BP ensured that Christchurch-based contractors were used in the site’s construction, including Cassidy Construction Ltd., PSL Civil Ltd. and Petroleum Solutions Ltd.
In addition to employing local contractors, the upgraded store will also provide up to 25 jobs to the local community who will greet up to 650,000 customers every year.
“BP Connect Fendalton is designed to make the customer experience that little bit better than the others,” van Hattum said.
