Kiwi manufacturer TruDesign wins at DAME awards
TruDesign’s load bearing collars take out international design award at METSTRADE in Amsterdam
TruDesign have won an international
design award at the 25th DAME awards, handed out at the
annual Marine Equipment Trade Show in
Amsterdam.
TruDesign’s load bearing collars won the marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials category, one of just seven winners at the awards from a field of 110 entries. The jury mentioned it particularly appreciated the design simplicity of the collars.
Managing director Alan Maddox says the award is acknowledgement for the hard work of the team.
“After exhibiting at METS for the past 10 years we are extremely happy upon winning this year’s DAME award and it is great recognition for our design team who, with this innovative and compact design, have now completely changed the concept of a skin fitting & ball valve assembly,” says Maddox.
“To win the DAME award for an innovative product like the load bearing collar confirms once again to our customers that TruDesign are the market leaders in marine composite fittings.”
The load bearing collars are designed for use with their composite thru-hull skin fittings and ball valves. With the collar installed, the entire assembly will withstand a 227 kg (500lb) static force applied to the hose tail end of the assembly, for a minimum of 30 seconds – complying with North America’s ABYC H-27 standard. The collar was designed to eliminate the need for additional fasteners through the hull, as is the case with traditional bronze flanged seacocks, making it unique in the marketplace.
With more than 40 years experience designing injection moulded engineering plastics, TruDesign’s high-quality, New Zealand-made products are recognised by a number of international certifications, acknowledging the robust design, manufacture and testing processes the products are put through.
Some 51 products were selected from the entries to be judged in the final round, which were chosen by a 10-strong jury of industry experts from around the world.
The competition brings together the most innovative new marine equipment and accessories, and award-winning DAME products have come to lead the worldwide leisure marine industry with their designs.
Six other products won category awards, with two going on to take out the joint overall winner. The innovation of the products was weighted heavily, with awards being handed out to a range of products, from simple pieces to highly specialised equipment. Other factors involved in the jury’s decision were the overall design, build quality, functionality, use of materials, cost effectiveness and environmental impact.
The three day event saw more than 20,000 visitors from over 100 countries visit 1,350 exhibitors. METS is the world’s largest trade exhibition of equipment, materials and systems for the international marine leisure industry.
