The Changing Face of Teeth

Kiwi Business Leads the Way in Natural Oral Healthcare

New innovations have been disrupting industries around the world, from taxis without metres to supermarket checkouts without operators, rapid change can be felt in every industry and the next major category disruption could be happening in your very own bathroom.

A study conducted by the Global Industry Analysts found that there is an increased global demand for natural oral care products; a trend which has been picked up even here in New Zealand.

Kiwi business, Grin Natural, have developed a 100% natural toothpaste with all of its natural ingredients sourced locally around New Zealand.

“We have been overwhelmed with the positive reception this natural product has received. More and more Kiwi’s are investing in products which are good for their overall health rather than chemical products which may be harmful to them in the long term,” says Grin Natural Marketing Manager, Tara Tan.

Traditionally, toothpaste has contained controversial chemicals such as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), which recent studies have shown, don't have any oral health benefits other than to create foam.

Flouride has also been the centre of much debate as studies have shown that it may cause Flourosis, the mottling of the tooth’s enamel, in some children.

The uptake in natural oral healthcare in New Zealand also alludes to more acceptance of a more natural, European coloured teeth rather than the clinically and chemically whitened look.

Massey University have conducted a study which involved testing the 100% natural ingredients used in GrinNatural toothpaste against common oral bacteria, found that six out of the seven natural ingredients were extremely effective in inhibiting their growth.

“We found that spearmint, peppermint, fennel, menthol, manuka tree oil and propolis were all effective in inhibiting the growth of harmful oral bacteria for more than 48 hours,” says Dr Tony Mutukumira, Massey University Senior Lecturer.

Grin Natural are committed to producing New Zealand made, scientifically proven, natural personal care products.
