Federated Farmers grieves loss of former Chief Executive
Federated Farmers is saddened by the death of former Chief Executive Tony St Clair.
Mr. St Clair served as Chief Executive between 1997 and 2005 following several years as Executive Director of the Victorian Farmers Federation.
“Tony was an inspirational and passionate advocate for agriculture and farming and he had an intimate and detailed knowledge and understanding of Federated Farmers,” says Federated Farmers National President Dr. William Rolleston.
In his time as CEO he built up a strong organisation which became one of the biggest and most effective lobby groups in New Zealand.
“Along with Federated Farmers President Malcolm Bailey, Tony helped transform Federated Farmers from a collection of autonomous provinces with a national office, into the truly national Federation we know today.”
“I always found Tony to be good humoured and good company.”
Mr. St Clair’s passing happened a couple of days before Federation life member Gordon Stephenson also passed.
“We’ve lost two inspiring agricultural leaders within
a short time of each other – both will be greatly
missed,” says Dr. Rolleston.
Tony is survived by his
wife Shona, sons Lauchie and Chris, and daughter
Kate.
