Work on Blenheim’s new Omaka Landing subdivision will kick off in two weeks, with resource consents approved by the Marlborough District Council.
Colonial Vineyards spokesman Mark Davis said 70 percent of the sections in the first stage of the New Renwick Rd development had been sold and the first homes could be in by the end of the year.
“We’ve got a great mix of owners, including several young families who wanted to be close to the river and close to town, but in a semi-rural location.”
Initial work on Richardson Avenue and the storm water to Burleigh Bridge will start in a few weeks, with more substantial work due to kick off immediately after grape harvest, when the vines currently on the site are removed.
That will include access roads and trail links to the neighbouring Taylor River Reserve, Davis said. “It will be linked up to all the walking and cycling trails from day one, so kids can bike to school along the river, and families can easily and safely access the river.”
Demand for the sections had been very strong, with more than half selling within two weeks of hitting the market. “It’s a pretty prime location, with easy access to Taylor River Reserve and schools. Being close to the golf course and in the Fairhall School zone also seem to be key selling points.”
Only nine of the 34 residential sections in the first stage remain on the market. Now, with resource consents approved, work is being finalised on a landscaping plan that complements the natural environment, including the nearby Wither Hills.
Meanwhile, road names that celebrate Marlborough’s aviation heritage will be sent through to council. “Marlborough is known for wine and planes, and Omaka Landing is the perfect spot to celebrate both,” said Davis.
“We have the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre and world class cellar doors and vineyard restaurants practically on our doorstep, not to mention the Taylor River and Wither Hills. It’s a prime site, and sales are reflecting that.”
