The Star newspaper launches bigger and better weekly edition
As a part of their campaign to provide more local news to the people of Christchurch, Star Media’s directors, Pier and Charlotte Smulders, are excited to announce changes to The Star newspaper.
The new-look newspaper will reach more people than ever before from Thursday, February 25, when the company will print 92,000 copies for homes and drop-off points.
As a result of speaking to readers, the content has changed, too. There’s even more focus on local news, local people, entertainment and what’s on, and popular food and travel environments.
Pier Smulders says the change comes at a time when locally owned, operated and focused newspapers are becoming increasingly important to their cities.
“We all want local news and perspective on things to stay in touch with where we live. It’s always been the aim of The Star to tell the city’s stories, with everything from crime and politics, to events and its people’s successes; a bumper issue every week gives us more space in which to do that.”
As part of the The Star content changes, the newsroom is expanding to include Star Media’s CTV News reporters, with more journalists out on the streets gathering the best news.
Charlotte Smulders is keen to see the integrated newsroom produce the best daily content for CTV News and weekly stories for The Star.
“It’s important we have more reporters out and about producing great local content for Cantabrians. More than ever, we will be channelling the best stories to the weekly edition of The Star and we’re so happy we can now deliver this news to more homes.”
This Thursday, Star Media unveils the new-look paper, which will showcase a modern design and easy-to-navigate layout.
Along with changes to The Star, Star Media’s community papers (Nor’West News, Western News, Southern View and Pegasus Post) will now reach communities on Tuesdays.
Bay Harbour News will change from being a fortnightly paper for coastal suburbs and Banks Peninsula to a weekly publication, delivering more news to those residents. Selwyn Times remains a weekly publication circulated on Tuesdays.
Look for The Star and your local community newspaper in your mailbox every week, visit Rise Up Christchurch on Facebook and watch CTV News’ daily news bulletin at 5.30pm, 7pm and 9.30pm for your local news.
KEY CHANGES:
• A bumper issue of The Star is now delivered every Thursday.
• 92,000 copies of The Star circulated every week.
