More hoppy goodness planned for Wellington’s crafty crowd

More hoppy goodness planned for Wellington’s crafty crowd

Award winning Choice Bros Brewing, renowned for their experimental, innovative and occasionally controversial craft beers, have relinquished their gypsy brewing heritage to set down some permanent roots in the craft beer capital of Wellington and they’re looking to their crafty crowd to help them.

With a new lease signed and construction planned to begin in early April on their subterranean watering hole, this exciting new project promises to be the next hotspot for the epicurious and lovers of all things craft.

Joining forces with boutique coffee roasters, Karamu Espresso, the team at Choice Bros will be fitting out their shared space with a combined brewery, coffee roastery and eatery, aptly named HUSK.

Tucked away down a private lane-way just off Ghuznee Street, this hidden gem will be a welcome addition to the city’s burgeoning hospitality scene.

Focused on fresh, quality local produce, the site will offer the best in local craft beer, award winning Organic coffee and sumptuous beer & coffee food matches. Above all, HUSK aims to provide the very best of everything Wellingtonians have come to know and love in a fun and friendly environment.

Launching at 12PM on Saturday 27 February the PledgeMe campaign coincides with Martinborough's annual BrewDayfestival. Fans, followers and the plain curious will get the opportunity to participate in some pretty choice bounty with what promises to be a first for craft beer lovers in New Zealand.

Choice Bros are looking to realise their dream and raise $150,000 to help them achieve their goal of a brand new brewery in the heart of the capital, with a stretch target of $250,000 to help fund the ‘optional’ but somewhat essential luxury items such as a keg washer, grain auger and packaging equipment and invest in a barrel ageing programme along-side the brewery.

“We’ve decided to run with a smaller 7BBL (850ltr) brewery to maximise the space and allow for more fermenters on the brew floor,” says Head Brewer, Kerry Gray.

“That way we get to brew more often, experiment more and maintain freshness at the taps.”.

Mr Gray said the rewards for Choice Bros campaign were going to be pretty amazing for anyone interested in craft beer or home brewing.

“What’s so exciting about this campaign, when compared to the other staggeringly successful craft beer-related PledgeMecampaigns which have gone before, is the tangible and tantalising nature of the rewards on offer.

“Early adopters will have an opportunity to grab some incredible limited and exclusive offers, designed to appeal to everyone and available to anyone keen to be a part of this exciting new enterprise.”

Operations Manager Mike Pullin said the team were excited about the campaign and had been putting a lot of work into making this a really positive value exchange for those people who want to come along and support us on our journey.

“The idea is to make this a truly collaborative project where our crowd can fully engage in the process, appreciate the experience and share ideas. There’s something here for everyone,” Mr Pullin said.

“Grassroots pledgers or those simply keen to be a part of the project have the opportunity to grab some Choice Bros merchandise with designs by Toby Morris, value added bar tabs, or an invitation to the exclusive opening party.

“Budding brewers can get down and dirty with head brewer Kerry for a hands-on experience designing, brewing and launching their own beer.

“Cool corporates looking for something slightly more imaginative than a stuffed turkey for their valued customers or Social Clubs keen to break free of crusty buffet fare, paper hats and plastic whistles could sign up for an exclusive brew-day with the opportunity to design, name, brew and release their own beer at an exclusive in-house party at HUSK.”

Mr Pullin said there are also a limited number of private beer matched dinners available.

“We’ve got exclusive membership to monthly beer and food matching events and some very limited prized Golden Ticketsoffering Lifetime membership to the Choice Bros Quality Control Panel.

“We’re going to make Willy Wonker look like the Scrooge who stole Christmas! Members of the Quality Control Panel will have the opportunity to sniff, slurp, swill and savour any one of the Choice Bros brews on offer at HUSK on each visit to the brewery in return for their feedback. (As you’d expect, some conditions apply).”

So if the prospect of a lifetime of gratuitous refreshment sounds appealing, we suggest you act quickly.
