Crowd funding success for kiwi designed beer fermenter

A kiwi designed beer fermenter is set to move into larger scale manufacture after being over subscribed on a crowd funding Kickstarter campaign which finished at the weekend.

The Malt Mechanics fermenter is designed in New Zealand by local product design consultancy Indemic. It offers significant improvements and advantages for serious home brewers. The Kickstarter campaign was strongly supported internationally, which is great export opportunity for a locally manufactured product.

Nick Jones of Malt Mechanics says the backing from the public has been fantastic with the $50,000 target comfortably reached.

“We are confident that we have a superbly designed fermenter that has huge appeal, however testing the market in this way via crowdfunding was an anxious time. So few crowdfunding campaigns end successfully, particularly in New Zealand, so we are taking a lot of confidence from the outcome,” he says.

The funds raised will allow manufacturing of large numbers of the fermenter to begin almost immediately, and will be a great launch pad for the other brewing related products they have in the pipeline.

“We know there has been big move towards craft beer with people, either in small groups or individually, making their own. The Malt Mechanics fermenter ultimately means that in these circumstances a much better beer can be produced more easily.”

In total there are 161 people who have chosen to invest in the campaign with about 50% coming from overseas.
