Ownership change but Scenic Hotel Group retain Management

New Zealand owned and operated Scenic Hotel Group welcomes new entrant Lotus Hospitality into the market as the new owner of Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport, managed by Scenic Hotel Group.

Scenic Hotel Group, Managing Director, Brendan Taylor confirms that they will continue with the hotel management contract that sees the day to day operations and marketing of Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport and looks forward to working with the new owners in furthering the potential of this property.

Mr. Taylor commented on the success story that is Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport and the Scenic Hotel Group’s repositioning of the property, which has, over the past two years seen occupancy rise from 60% to 90%. Mr. Taylor says “Scenic Hotel Group will be working hard to continue improving the hotel’s performance under our Heartland brand, with yield improvement being our focus.”

The hotel sale was transacted by Colliers International’s Hotels division, with National Director Dean Humphries saying that this recent purchase by Lotus Hospitality, new entrants to the New Zealand market, “continues to demonstrate the appeal New Zealand’s tourism sector has to domestic and offshore investors.”

Mr. Humphries also stated “the tourism market is booming, fueled by record visitation numbers, an attractive dollar, strong domestic demand and New Zealand’s image as a safe place to travel.”

Yesh Mudaliar, Asset Manager from Lotus Hospitality says “after a successful reposition of a 181 room hotel in Sydney, Holiday Inn Parramatta - we have been pursuing an opportunity in Auckland for a while and we are excited to be entering the thriving New Zealand tourism market”.

Mr. Mudaliar further stated “the acquisition of Heartland Hotel Auckland Airport and partnership with Scenic Hotel Group will propel our hospitality portfolio to new heights and we plan to continue pursuit of additional hotel acquisitions within New Zealand and Australia”.

The Heartland Hotel is in close proximity to Auckland International Airport on George Bolt Memorial Drive on a 1.6 ha site. The 141-room hotel has a three and half star Qualmark rating with 288 on-site car spaces, as well as meeting facilities, a restaurant and a swimming pool.

Scenic Hotel Group is a wholly New Zealand owned and operated hotel group with a portfolio of 20 properties throughout New Zealand and also in the Pacific Islands of Niue and Tonga.
