Nick Leggett appointed Chair of Spark Foundation

Spark Foundation, the charitable trust funded by Spark New Zealand, has announced the appointment of Nick Leggett as Chair of its Board of Trustees.

Nick, who has been Deputy Chair since 2013, succeeds Sir Bob Harvey who ends his term as Chair but remains a Trustee.

As Mayor of Porirua since 2010, Nick has been widely involved in community initiatives. He has been New Zealand’s youngest Mayor and represented New Zealand’s youngest community with 28% of Porirua residents being under 15 years old.

Foundation General Manager Lynne Le Gros says Nick’s passion for engaging with New Zealanders and his extensive governance experience will continue to serve the Board with merit.

“Throughout his time on the Board, Nick’s perspective on young New Zealanders has been pivotal as the Foundation progresses its work in creating a better future for Kiwi kids and improving digital enablement in communities throughout the country,” says Lynne.

Nick is excited to extend his involvement with the Spark Foundation.

“The founders of the Spark Foundation, including Sir Bob Harvey, had tremendous foresight to establish innovative, best practice programmes,” says Nick. “Every community has an ongoing responsibility to seek solutions to the challenges it faces and work with public and private organisations as active partners. I am keen to ensure the Foundation’s programmes continue to serve the needs of Kiwi communities.”

Sir Bob played a pivotal role as inaugural Chair when the Foundation was established five years ago and was instrumental in developing the Foundation’s vision. “The Foundation is sincerely grateful for Sir Bob’s service and is thrilled he will continue to contribute his energy, enthusiasm, and expertise as a Trustee,” says Lynne.
