Pet Doctors Expands into Rural Sector
New Zealand’s largest group of companion animal veterinary clinics is now expanding into the rural sector.
Pet Doctors Group, which currently operates 27 veterinary clinics throughout New Zealand, has acquired its first mixed-animal practice in rural Waihi. The previous owner of Waihi Veterinary Services, Dr Mark Mora, is remaining in the business as head of the practice.
Pet Doctors CEO Dr Steve Merchant says this is an exciting purchase for the Group, as it signals their entrance into the large-animal veterinary sector.
“This is the start of our expansion into the rural and dairy veterinary market. We’re actively seeking and developing further opportunities throughout New Zealand.”
Dr Merchant says the Pet Doctors model has been built on providing veterinary clinics with centralised administration support and efficiencies. The Group also has regional managers based on-the-ground to provide further support to their clinics.
“This allows our vets to focus on providing the clients and animals in their communities with the best in clinical care.”
Founded in 2005, Pet Doctors Group currently operates 27 veterinary clinics in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The Group also owns a number of vertically-integrated businesses – including a veterinary nurse training school and an online pet retail business.
