Vacancies rose in April – MBIE Jobs Online report
The number of job vacancies rose by 0.6 per cent in April 2016, and by 7.7 per cent over the year, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Jobs Online report.
The education and training industry experienced the greatest rise in vacancy numbers in April (up 2.1 per cent).
Occupation groups with the largest increases were labourers (up 3.3 per cent) and technicians and trades workers (up 1.3 per cent), while sales occupations saw the largest decrease (down 1.2 per cent).
Vacancies increased across all ten regions in April. The biggest increases were seen in the Bay of Plenty (up 1.8 per cent), Auckland, Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough/West Coast and Otago/Southland (all up 1.6 per cent).
MBIE’s Labour Market Trends Manager, David Paterson says, “The increase in the vacancies is consistent with employment growth of 1.2 per cent in the March 2016 quarter.”
