Labour planning view welcome
BusinessNZ is welcoming the announcement by the Labour Party that zoning constraints are the key things that need to change to fix the Auckland housing crisis.
Labour’s Housing spokesman Phil Twyford has called for Auckland’s metropolitan urban limits to be abolished to provide more land for housing.
BusinessNZ Chief Executive Kirk Hope says there are a number of initiatives that are helping to unblock current housing constraints, but providing more land for building on is the key requirement.
“With agreement on this issue between both main political parties, it is to be hoped that local government planning decisions will take heed of the need to focus on land and housing supply.”
