More women working at governance level – latest New Zealand Diversity Survey

A biannual survey of Kiwi companies has shown a significant jump in the percentage of women in leadership and governance roles.

Females within the leadership or decision-making team increased from 39.2% in the last New Zealand Diversity Survey to 48.4% in the latest survey.

At the governance level, the proportion of women increased from 39.5% to 46.4%.

The survey, which was initiated in 2013 to create a better understanding of the key diversity challenges facing New Zealand organisations, is carried out twice a year by Diversity Works (formerly the EEO Trust) in partnership with Auckland Chamber of Commerce.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Michael Barnett says the growing number of women in leadership roles was a real positive for New Zealand businesses.

“It shows a mature business culture that is hiring on merit and, as a result of that, reaping the benefits of diverse leadership teams,” says Barnett.
