Boost for Smart Capital businesses with legal partnership

Boost for Smart Capital businesses with legal partnership

Empowering Wellington’s startup and growth companies to succeed is at the heart of a scheme providing in-house legal advice to 85 local tech, creative, manufacturing, digital and not for profit organisations.

Recipients of the scheme are companies residing in coworking operator BizDojo’s Wellington location thanks to a partnership with leading tech law firm, Simmonds Stewart. The firm will provide a lawyer in BizDojo each week for ad-hoc legal questions and will run regular round-table discussions and presentations. The onsite ad-hoc advice will be provided to BizDojo companies at no cost.

Simmonds Stewart recently advised long time BizDojo resident 90 Seconds on their investment by global venture capital firm, Sequoia Capital and NZ based SKY Ventures. Simmonds Stewart has been a significant long term contributor to the NZ start up ecosystem, and the firm is excited to share skills as part of its commitment to helping other NZ companies grow into international markets.

As a tech focussed law firm, the number of startups and growth companies that the firm is advising continues to grow significantly year-on- year. We are very impressed with BizDojo where there are some exciting companies resident. Being present in the ‘Dojo will hopefully benefit residents and help us generate more relevant content which may help NZ’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. We can’t wait to get started”. Lee Bagshaw, Partner, Simmonds Stewart.”

With 165 residents in Wellington and nearing capacity, BizDojo is looking to extend its footprint to provide more space for innovative and entrepreneurial businesses. This expansion sits alongside a national growth strategy that is seeing the company open a Christchurch location, making it the only national coworking community in New Zealand. With a focus on growth and support, BizDojo prides itself on offering community connections and programmes out of their spaces in Wellington Auckland and soon Christchurch.

Our number one value is collaboration and it’s pretty awesome to be aligning ourselves with firms that have the same vision and values as us. Partnerships like this are all about providing additional support and benefits for our growing companies.” Jessica Manins, Regional Director, BizDojo.
