New Zealand 3D model company is printing dreams

A New Zealand company that makes three-dimensional models and scenery for gamers is giving fans the ability to print their own designs in their own homes.

Printable Scenery produces 3D printable models and gaming terrain for customers around the world.

The company operates the first dedicated 3D printable scenery website in the world.

It recently ran a successful Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaign through which more than 600 gaming enthusiasts, mainly from the UK and USA, pledged over $NZ40,000 to support the design and launch of its printable citadel model.

Thanks to 3D printing technology, backers were sent downloadable designs to print at home to produce scenery with movie-like detail.

Now the company is canvassing the ever-growing international table-top fan base to help finance its next printing vision – The Apocalypse Ruins.

So far, more than 400 people have pledged nearly $41,000 for this second Kickstarter campaign.

“This kind of 3D printing technology is coming along in leaps and bounds and gamers love it,” says chief executive Matt Barker.

“Instead of waiting a couple of weeks for a model to be shipped and sent, we provide the 3D file and you just print the piece in your own home overnight.

“It’s the next step in the war-gaming and scale model world.”

Printable Scenery utilises professionals from the film and television industry who have a passion for table-top war gaming.

This makes their designs particularly creative and realistic.

Their printable designs range from gothic science-fiction and medieval fantasy citadels to World War II ruins.

While Mr Barker says the scale model industry is worth billions of dollars, 3D printing technology is causing a revolution and is expanding rapidly.

“Scale model builders and table-top enthusiasts will now download and print whatever they want and to what scale they want from a huge selection of online models.

“Our selection already rivals any mass produced store for variety in its selection, and is the largest selection of 3D printable scenery models in the world.

“We are wargames and scale model makers who are also 3D modelling professionals. We currently make the best 3D printable scale scenery in the world, and we’re getting better at it.”
