FULTON HOGAN HIWAYS BUILDING SAFER KALIL ROAD
More than 30 children living along Kalil Road, six kilometres outside Nausori, are finding it easier to get to school, thanks to road maintenance carried out by Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH).
According to Kalil community resident, Mr Praveen Kumar, the 500metre road used to be so slippery and full of potholes when it rained, children would miss school because they could not walk safely to the main road for transport.
“The road was so bad for the past three years that carriers, taxis, even four-wheel drives were reluctant to drive along the road. We all had to walk, carrying our groceries, whatever the weather. That has all changed. We are so grateful to Fulton Hogan Hiways.”
FHH cleared and constructed a new drainage system graveled, and graded the road surface of the road, making it safe to drive and walk along.
“Now we be can picked up and dropped at our homes and we won't have to worry about walking the extra distance, carrying supplies,” said Mr Kumar.
The maintenance work will benefit more than 200 residents that live along Kalil Road.
Fulton Hogan Hiways continues to support Fiji Roads Authority by servicing Fiji's rural roads in the Central, Eastern, and Northern divisions.
