Top NZ technology entrepreneur recognised at APAC awards

New Zealand’s oDocs Eye Care has been announced as a finalist in the prestigous APAC Talent Unleashed Awards today.

The finalists have been selected by a world-class international judging panel, including Steve Wozniak, Sir Richard Branson, Jane Tewson (Founder and Managing Director, Igniting Change), Dan Radcliffe (International Volunteer HQ), Cliff Rosenberg (LinkedIn), Jade Zhang (Founder and Managing Director, Okmno Asia), Patrick Grove (Captcha Group), and Yat Siu (Outblaze).

The APAC finalists have been recognised as the boldest in technological innovation and are from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

oDocs Eye Care has been nominated for the Best Start Up – Social Impact Award. A social enterprise creating affordable primary healthcare solutions for those who need it, ODOCS Eye Care exemplifies the best of Kiwi entrepreneurialism, combining cutting-edge tech innovation with a strong social conscience.

Established in 2014 by Dr. Hong Sheng Chiong and Dr. Benjamin O'Keeffe, oDocs Eye Care is an innovative company in the field of portable eye care. oDocs quickly gained attention by open-sourcing a retinal camera for smartphones for clinicians to easily and affordably diagnose eye issues. It gained over 3,000 clinical users in its first year, and continues to grow quickly.

oDocs Eye Care aims to prevent blindness in regions where better eyesight care is needed, with 80% of visual impairment issues and blindness preventable, and 90% occurring in developing or low-income areas. Half of oDoc’s net profit from selling its products to clinicians is committed to saving sight of people of all ages in developing regions.

The APAC finals event will be held in Melbourne on the 21 July and the winners at the APAC Finals will go on to complete in the Global Grand Finals in Sydney on 18 August, headlined by iconic Silicon Valley entrepreneur Steve Wozniak.
